       Hopefully, all stayed warm and safe during the snow days.  Hopefully the children are ready to get back to school and get back to work.

        This week the children will learn about the /ar/ sound.  They will be reading several stories with words with this sound in them.  They will be reading the stories " A Barn Full of Hats" and "Nuts for Winter".  The children will continue to sort and classifying and categorizing things.  The children will write narratives about their famous African American and "If they were the President of the United States".
       In math the children will continue to review addition and subtraction math facts and telling time by the hour and the half hour.  They will review the parts of the calendar and how to read a calendar.  They will also continue to work addition and subtraction word problems.
       The children will continue to learn about famous African Americans as they prepare for their class presentation.  This presentation will be rescheduled due to the snow days.  I will contact you with the date as soon as I fine out the new date.   They should dress like a famous African American. The children should come to school dressed for the presentation.   It can be an African American that we have studied in class or another African American.  They will bring home a writing assignment this week that they can write about their famous African American.  They should write at least 4 details about them.
       In social studies the children will also learn about American Symbols.

       This will be a fun week.  The children will continue to learn about famous African Americans, presidents, and they will do some Valentine Day activities.
       In reading the children will continue to learn about long vowels.  They will learn about the long /e/ spelled y and ey.  They will read story with these sounds in them.  The children will continue to   retell and rewrite about what they read using T-maps and Bubble maps.
       In language the children will review past and present tense verbs.  They will sort verbs and nouns.
      The children will continue to work on writing narratives.  They will be writing about Presidents as they prepare for President's Day.
       In math the children will continue to work on learning their addition and subtraction math facts.  They will learn how to tell time on an analog and digital clock.  The children will learn how to tell time by the hour and the half hour.  This will be a great skill to allow your child to practice at home.
         The children will have a small presentation on Friday, February 27th at 8;30 a.m. in the Eagle Nest.  This presentation will be on famous African Americans.  Your child should dress up as a famous African American.  More information will be coming home later.
        The children may make Valentine cards for their friends.  These cards must be done at home.  Allow your child to bring to school by Tuesday a cereal box, cookie box, etc.  They will decorate these boxes for their Valentine cards.  The children will have a Valentine party on Friday, February 13th.
