           This week the children will be learning about the sound that /ou/ and /ow/ stand for.  They will be reading two stories with this sound in them.  The children will learn how to identify the authors point of view, main details, and the main idea within the story.  The children will continue to work on reading for fluency and comprehension.  The children will continue to work with using adjectives to compare.
      The children will write two narratives: 1.  If I had a kite I would.........
                                                                     2.  If I planted a garden I would.........
The children will continue  using correct punctuation, organization, spacing, correct capitalization. I will be encouraging the children to use adjectives within their writings.
    In math the children will be learning about different shapes.  They will continue to work on learning their addition and subtraction number facts.  The children will begin having 4 minute speed drills on their addition number facts.  This will be practice as they prepare for second grade.
       In science the children will learn about plants.  They will learn about the part of a plant and the purpose of each part.  The children will be doing some experiments with plants in the STEM lab this week.

Classroom Reminder:

  1. Your child will need to bring a picture of them with their grandparent.  This picture will be used during grandparent's day.
  2. All  students need to continue to work study their sight words as much as possible.
  3. Encourage your child to read for enjoyment as much as possible.
