      This week the children will continue to work on sight words, reading for understanding and fluency. They will be reading stories and identifying the main idea and major details in the story. They will continue to rewrite and retell stories that they read in sequence.  In language the children will review nouns and verbs.  They will learn the correct way to use the verbs "were" and "was".  In spelling/phonics they will learn about the sound that long /a/ makes spelled /ai/ and /ay/.  The children will  be introduced to compound words.
      In math the children will continue to work on addition and subtraction.  They will hopefully be introduced to addition of two digit numbers.  They will continue to work addition and subtraction word problems and counting using tally marks.  They will work on identifying the greater than number> , <less than number, and the number that is equal=.
      The children will continue to work on writing using good letter formation and spacing.  They will write several narratives about winter.
       They will continue to learn about winter.

WEEKLY REMINDERS:

1. Remind your child to read an AR book daily and return it to school daily.
2. Continue to review your child's work daily.
3.  Allow your child to study their sight words and math facts as much as possible.
4.  Please schedule a conference to discuss your child's progress in first grade.
